roses

I was given these beauties Thursday evening by Spenser.  It was one of the best nights I've had in a long time.  On the drive there I called and asked if he had anything to eat. I know, I know, slightly embarassing, but it was late and I was hun-gry.  I was kind of craving something in the pizza family, but thought "really anything will be good right now".

Then, I had this passing thought, "Oh wouldn't it be great if he had something bubbly to drink and that pizza-thing I'm craving...and maybe like a flower?"  But like I said it was passing.  It came and went.  Plus, usually I don't think things like that, so it was kind of strange.
However, he must have read my mind.  I was pulling up into the driveway and who else was there? The pizza man!  Then, it got even better.  Inside, he had these roses and some sparkling drinks.  It was just like my thought in the car-I couldn't believe it.

We spent the rest of the night drinking fun beverages and watching old videos.  Spenser recently transferred a bunch of old home videos to his computer.  There were clips of his old choir recitals, a few 4H showings (he, like, won every blue ribbon, not even joking-what a kid!), holidays, music competitions, etc.  So we got silly and watched those.  There was even one of us doing a joke a few years ago.  I might have to share it on here sometime.

I've had these red beauties on display in my room as of late.
They're quite lovely and remind me of what a perfect night it was.
I'm a lucky girl.

The Civil War at the Old Capitol

On Friday, that day I roamed around, Spenser and I visited the Old Capitol.  I met up with him while he had a short break between classes and we walked through the Capitol's ongoing exhibit on The Civil War.  (note: this was not when I was late meeting up with him.  The wandering, losing track of time came later in the day. ;) )

The Old Capital changes exhibits every year.  The first year Spenser and I went they were featuring an exhibit on life in the 1960s and 1970s.  Boy was I in heaven!  I wanted to move into the replica of a college student's room.  It came complete with a typewriter, a Beatles poster, albums, a small tv and a peace jacket.  The second year we toured, they had an exhibit on corn.  Big surprise there! I mean it is Iowa after all.  The museum also has a few room displays that are constant that we always walk through.
As I said previously, this year's exhibit covered The Civil War and included artifacts and information about the soldiers' lives and deaths, the weapons used, and instruments played by battlefield musicians.  There was also a small section on Lincoln's assaination.  Within this section, was what I found one of the most interesting pieces of the exhibit: a real-life cast of Lincoln's hands.  They were huge!  I mean gigantic!

The pictures that follow the war-era weapons picture are scenes of the museum's permanent displays.  And lastly here is The Capitol's beautiful winding staircase.

Friday

Today I'm getting to do a little wandering around while Spenser is in class.  It's been nice just to roam, take in the day, do a little shopping.  It's been really laid back, which is quite lovely.

However, it got so laid back that I totally lost track of time for when Spenser and I were supposed to meet up. whoops! haha!  But that's okay because it all worked out. :)
Aren't these dresses lovely?
They were at one of my favorite vintage shops.  I ended up going home with the red Fossil one on the right.  I think it will be quite perfect for when summer rolls around.

Happy weekending!

I send my love.

I realized it's Valentine's Day today, and I haven't sent any valentines!  I don't believe Valentine's Day is just for lovers, I think it's a day for love in general.  Thus, I have a number of people I want to send valentines too because I love them!  I ran out and got some last minute valentine cards and am now furiously writing my sentiments to friends and getting them all ready to be mailed out. :)
So see, friends, I love you.
You're valentines will be a little late, that's all. :)
Happy Valentine's Day!

a "cute" story

Okay, so I just couldn't resist sharing this story:

I work part time as a teacher's aide.  This morning, the first graders were having what you see above^^ as a snack.  One of the little girls came up to me and asked me if I knew the name of them.  Each time I guessed she smiled wide (she was getting a kick out of me guessing) and answered with drawn out "nooooo".  The conversation went as follows:

"Miss Chelsea, do you know what these are called?"
"Clementines?"
"Nooo..."
"Oranges?"
"Nooo..."
"Tangerines?"
"Nooo..."
"Tangelos?"
"Noooooo..."
"Okay, I give up, what are they called?"
"CUTIES!"
