The War on Drugs

Remember when I told about going to bonnaroo?  Well one of the bands that will be playing at bonnaroo came to Iowa City last night.  Spens and I went to go see The War on Drugs at Gabe's.  They had quite a few opening acts as well, so we kind of got a mix of music last night.
Wet Hair was one of the opening acts.  They were followed by Dirty Beaches. (not pictured)
Then lastly, the band we were there to see-The War on Drugs.  We didn't stay for the whole setlist, but enough to get a taste of the music.
Check out the guy on keyboard. We saw him before the performance and not knowing he was part of the band, Spenser exclaimed, "There's hipster Jesus!"
We knew there was something cool about him. ;)

Look who came to visit!

Spenser made a last minute decision to come yesterday evening.  Today we went to our very favorite Steak n' Shake and then because it was so beautiful out we decided to take a walk.  It felt so nice to get outside! The weather was perfect. (Though it was a bit windy: note hair. ;) )
Spenser's visit was a great break in the week and a great break from the homework.  Sometimes you just need to take a step away, you know? Thank you, boyfriend, for letting me do just that.

The Drive-In

On Saturday night Adele, Becca, and I went to the double feature at the drive-in.  We saw the much-anticipated Hunger Games and One for the Money.  Both Becca and Adele have read The Hunger Games, but I can't claim to...so I know what I'll be doing this summer.  At the drive-in we did sort of a tailgate set up where we popped the trunk and sat in the back.  It worked quite nicely and we have Becca to thank for making it all comfy, cozy with a gazillion pillows and blankets.  I love how the drive-in has an old time feel to it.  Plus, I can't help but smile at the dancing refreshment commercials.

In Bloom

I took a walk with my mom today to enjoy the beautiful weather.  It is definitely spring!  (It felt like summer for a few days there too!)  All the plants and flowers are just starting to bloom-the magnolias, tulips, crab apple trees, lilacs, etc.  And the world outside is very pretty because of it.
Happy spring!  Hope you're enjoying the weather as well!

things I'm loving right now...

The style of Francoise Hardy and Jane Birkin.  These two lovely ladies were such natural beauties.

The thought of Ft. Walton Beach...I miss its emerald waves and white sand.

Lean Cuisine Delicious Rewards: I know this makes me dorky, but considering that most of my meals come out of the microwave these days (I can't wait for you, kitchen!) it is enjoyable to receive free things because of them.

Red lipstick, I love the timeless look of it. Classic. Always.

This typewriter necklace.  I just hope the paper doesn't fall out. ;-)

Lastly, I love this live simply print.  It makes me long for my bike and for summer. Credit here.

St. Patrick's Day

One of Adele, Rebecca and I's most notable skills is taking goofy pictures together.  I'd like to say that magic happens when we are in front of the camera and last night was no exception.  So if you were dying to see a plethora (and by that I mean a ridiculous amount) of pictures us making strange expressions, you've come to the right place!

West Side Story

Tonight I went to West Side Story put on by my former high school.  It was Laura and I's friend date.  I hadn't seen Laura in person since August!  We sat with Spenser and Near who were also hanging out tonight.  (I don't think they'd appreciate the term friend date...haha.)  Plus, we saw a lot of other people we knew too!

It's so strange to think that we're not in the musicals anymore.  It feels like just last year we were doing Fiddler on the Roof, but really it's been two years.  Eek!  Time is going fast....

I congratulate the cast of West Side Story for putting on a great performance!

ooh-la-la

Lauren and I indulged our girlie side tonight by doing each other's hair, painting our nails,
and watching The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.  These are all things that we used to love doing when we were younger, so it was just like old times.  I can now say that my toes are a beautiful sparkly blue and I am quite thankful I don't have a crazy mother (see movie).
I must also say no one does hair updos as well as Lauren.
I love this girl and I wish I could see her more often.

p.s. dear hot rollers, i forgot how wonderful you are!

bracelet making

This was a project that I did with some of neighbor-girls this evening.
The idea for the bracelet came from pinterest.
It's been so long since I've made a bracelet, so it was fun getting crafty again.
And the company was even more fun!

hitting the books

So far this weekend has been filled with textbooks, field experience journal essays, and other homework.  Not so fun, but at least I'm moving along.  Plus, I'm wearing funky socks which always makes the day better.  Spring break is at the end of this coming week, so I just have to get through a little more.  Fingers crossed that the week goes fast and that the work goes even faster. ;)
